Keep a confident, positive attitude
Posted on March 20th, 2009 4 commentsLet’s face it. Attitude is everything. You’ve heard it many many times before, but what does it actually mean? Attitude is your relationships, job, success, happiness, etc. This is because the world around you is transformed by your perception of it. How you perceive the world is what makes the world real to you. You could almost say everyone lives in their own little “Matrix”. One person’s reality is not necessary the reality of another. One person could feel that the world is ending due to the economic crisis, and another can feel that it’s just any other ordinary day.
Shape your day
It’s amazing how much your attitude and outlook have such a powerful effect on how your day plays out. If you begin the day with an attitude of confidence and energy, then that’s what you will exude throughout the day. Your interactions with people will carry on more smoothly. Life will seem to have just more of an “edge”. The reason for this is the way our emotions show as human beings. Obviously, we are social creatures, and emotions and mood are easy to spot a mile away. You don’t even realize it, but you’re displaying your neon sign of an attitude just by your posture, speech, facial muscles, and eye contact. Would you rather be spotted as happy or stressed? That’s what I thought.
It’s all in your head
Some people may be frustrated with the concept of “attitude is everything”. They feel like attitude isn’t controlled by them, but from whatever factors are playing out in their life. This can be true to an extent, but you can’t let menial things in life bring you to the point of submission. Your attitude is very malleable, and YOU are the only one that can shape it. I’ve found this simply by trying to find humor in things while at work. The day can go by slowly, and my conversations with customers that I support can be dry and menial. That happens if I have a poor attitude about it. The end result of this is stress and unhappiness. On the other hand, if I can keep an upbeat attitude about my day, I have meaningful conversations with my customers. I can genuinely talk with them, and share a good laugh (you’d be amazed at how many people are open to some humor even in a business environment). Days like this feel like they just fly by, and I feel much happy afterwards. This is just a simple example, but it shows how powerful a positive and confident attitude is.
